Family photographs that are less about the photo, and more about the family. Using candid family photography, I photograph your family with a documentary style. Rather than having you pose or do something you wouldn’t naturally do, I shoot what is happening while you interact together doing something you enjoy.
Whether you choose me to be with you for one hour or for a few, your photographs will describe who you are and what you feel… instead of just what you look like. We’ll spend time together doing things you enjoy, and I’ll make family photographs that show who you are, your personalities, your relationships, and your values.
My favourite experience is the full day, Day in the Life family photography session. I spend the day with you as you live your life, capturing the tiny seconds and the big emotions. The images are true to who you are, and the moments that are both unique and universal.
A shorter session is my popular Adventure session. These are two to four hour sessions where we do a few activities that you typically enjoy doing together–or something entirely new! Whether it’s a special occasion or an afternoon in the sun, the Adventure session is a meaningful, memorable experience.
If you’re looking for a quicker portrait session, the Quick and (sometimes) Dirty session is fun for really little kids or babies. The portraits are natural and we’ll still do an activity, but it’s less in depth than the Adventure or Day in the Life documentary sessions.
I believe in authentic, real life photographs that describe your family history. Family photographs help children understand and remember their childhood, and to see what their parents were like when they were younger. As a candid family photographer, I’m so curious about you! I aim to make photos that will show and teach the next generations what your lives were like.
I live in Nelson BC but I’m available to photograph your family anywhere in British Columbia and beyond. The session can be on a special occasion like a birthday or anniversary, on a day you’re going on an adventure, or a day when you’re all staying at home.
Documentary family photography is unstaged, candid photography of you just being yourselves. Contact me to learn more!
